Housing Programs
Public Housing
Public Housing units are owned and managed by IVHA. IVHA owns units located throughout Imperial County. Public Housing units vary in size and style, however they offer low rents based on the household income. Applications for public housing are subject to closure.
Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program
IVHA administers the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, a major federally funded program helping low income households afford decent, safe and sanitary housing. Section 8 provides eligible households the opportunity to rent housing of their choice in the private market. Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) are provided on behalf of the household each month to the landlord. The household is responsible for paying the difference between the contract rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by IVHA. Applications for Section 8 are subject to closure.
Non Elderly Disabled Section 8
Applications for the Non Elderly Disabled Section 8 Program are accepted throughout the year. This program enables persons or families to receive rental assistance if they meet the program criteria. A person or family must first meet the definition of "disabled", be under the age of 62 and meet the necessary income restrictions.
Senior/Disabled Housing
Units for seniors and the disabled are located in Brawley and El Centro. These low rent units offer seniors and the disabled a comfortable living environment in peaceful and secure surroundings.
Housing Opportunities for Farm Workers
As agriculture is such a large part of the Imperial Valley economy, we believe our Farm Worker Housing units are extremely important to our farm worker families residing in Imperial County. These units were developed for farm worker income families with funding provided by agencies such as USDA Rural Development and the State of California’s Housing & Community Development. Farm worker income families are offered the opportunity to reside in attractive communities with rents based on the family’s income. Applications are being accepted for the following developments:
- Sunset Garden Apartments - Heber
- Tierra del Sol - El Centro
- Austin Thomas - Brawley
- This institution is an equal opportunity employer and provider
Because the demand for affordable housing exceeds our housing stock, IVHA maintains a waiting list for all housing programs.
